1. How do the NY-USA Proud Award and the Patriot Support & Discount Program relate to the New York State Patriot Plan?
   

   On July 3, 2003, Governor George E. Pataki signed Chapter 106 of the Laws of 2003, an Act known as the Patriot Plan. This comprehensive legislation amended various provisions of law, including Section 100 of the Economic Development Law, to add two new subdivisions, 18-f and 18-g, creating the "NY-USA Proud Employer of Distinction Award" and the "Patriot Support & Discount Program." The law directs the Commissioner of Economic Development to establish procedures to effectuate these new programs designed to recognize businesses and employers that support persons called to active military duty.




2. How long will it take to receive the USA Proud Employer of Distinction Award or Patriot Support & Discount Certificate?
   

   Materials will be sent via the United States Postal Service. Please allow 4 weeks for delivery.




3. When will my business information be posted on the website?
   

   Updates to this website will be made on a weekly basis. Therefore, your business information should be posted within five workdays. Please send an email to patriotplan@empire.state.ny.us if it is not posted within this timeframe.




4. How long will my business information be posted on the website?
   

   Your business information will remain on this website as long as the programs are in operation.




5. What types of employers and businesses are eligible to participate?
   

   Any business or employer, either profit or not-for-profit, can participate.




6. What type of employer efforts will qualify the nominee for an award?
   

   Any employer effort that supports military employees beyond what is currently required by law, qualifies the nominee for an award.




7. What are the eligibility requirements to participate in the Patriot Support and Discount Program?
   

   Any business offering a reduced price discount on its products and/or services to military personnel is eligible.
